The Institute Of The Good Shepherd
The Institute is essentially missionary, seeking to bring the Good News to souls wherever they are. At present, we are made up of 62 priests in around 30 places in the world. Our model is the Good Shepherd, who “gives his life for his sheep” (John 10:11).The priests of the IBP derive from the Mass this spirit of renouncement and the generosity of the gift of self for the good of the sheep of Jesus Christ, especially those furthest from the Church.
The Institute of the Good Shepherd is a Society of Apostolic Life of Pontifical Right established in 2006 under the pontificate and with the support of Pope Benedict XVI. The members of the Institute are secular priests who live a community life in the houses of the Institute.
The sacerdotal spirituality of the Institute is based on the qualities of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd, who never ceases to go after his lost sheep, and does so with a pastoral zeal filled both with charity and mercy. The goal of the Institute is the sanctification of its members and the sanctification of the souls for the greater glory of God.
