BRINGING TRADITION TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH

In 2025, Archbishop Julian Porteous invited the Institute of the Good Shepherd to minister to the Latin Mass Community in Launceston, Tasmania and establish a house.

Building on the work of previous priests and the community, Father Shawn Murphy was sent as the first superior of the newly establish Saint Joseph House to care for the spiritual needs of the community and Tasmania.

THE IBP IS FOUNDED

The Institute of the Good Shepherd was founded in Rome on September 8, 2006, the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin, under the pontificate and benevolence of Pope Benedict XVI. On that day, the IBP’s statutes were approved by the Prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy, Cardinal Dario Castrillón Hoyos, acting on behalf of the Holy See.
